Food Program ... History
History of the Program The initial legislation, the National School Lunch Act, was passed in 1946 in response to the need to provide good nutrition to school-aged children. The positive results of the school lunch program laid the groundwork for the Child Care Food Program in 1968.
In 1989, the program was renamed the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The CACFP is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service. The USDA develops regulations for menu standards, sets reimbursement rates and provides guidance materials.
Yours for Children, Inc. (YFCI) sponsors family child care providers so that they and the children in their care receive program benefits.
